The Choir was formed in 1969. The Conductor at that time was Sgt. William Bosustow and his wife Eileen was our accompanist. The Choir at that time was made up of serving officers and civilian staff. Over the years as with many choirs we have had to change our format due to the passing of some of our members ( we still have three founder members amongst our ranks today) and we now have members from outside the Police Service.
Our main aim is to raise money for charity and in doing so we have sung for organisations within Gwent and beyond. I know the members like nothing better than singing for local pensioners associations and the like in a small intimate environment . Apart from hundreds of local concerts over the past 38years the choir has performed at numerous venues including Salisbury Cathedral, Royal Albert Hall (as part of 1,000 voices) Royal Festival Hall, Durham Cathedral also in front of Her Majesty the Queen on her visit to Gwent. We have also toured France and Germany on a number of occasions.
We currently have a membership of 40. We practice every Monday at 7.30pm at the Lecture Theatre, Gwent Police Headquarters, Croesyceiliog, and would warmly welcome anyone who enjoys singing ( we are not looking for Pavarotti,s and there is no voice test) and a good time socially. We go on and R & R weekend every year when choir members can relax with their partners and have time away without there being a concert.
We are fortunate in having an excellent musical team in our Musical Director Rodger Appleby BA (Mus) LGSM ATCL and our Accompanist Nicola Coker (Mus) M B Ed
